FAQ — straight answers from real techs.

Search the questions homeowners ask us most. If you don't see yours, give us a call — we'll answer it.

EmergencyDo you really answer the phone 24/7?+

Yes. After-hours calls to our Brookings line route to an on-call technician. If pipes burst, your furnace dies in January, or your AC quits in July, call us.

EmergencyWhat counts as an HVAC or plumbing emergency?+

No heat in winter, no AC during a heat advisory, active water leaks, sewer backups, gas smell, or any safety concern like CO alarms. Shut off your main water valve or gas if it's safe to, then call.

PlumbingWhy is my water heater taking forever to recover?+

It usually means sediment buildup in the tank, a failing heating element, or a dip tube issue. Most units last 8–12 years; if yours is past that, replacement is often cheaper than another repair.

PlumbingShould I get a tankless water heater?+

Tankless saves space and gives you endless hot water, but needs the right gas line and venting. We can walk you through whether it makes sense for your home — sometimes a quality tank is still the better call.

PlumbingMy drain keeps clogging. Is it the line or just hair?+

If multiple drains slow at once, it's almost always a main line issue (roots, grease, or a belly). A single tub? Usually hair. We can run a camera to be sure before recommending anything.

HeatingHow often should I service my furnace?+

Once a year, ideally in early fall before the cold hits. Annual tune-ups catch failing parts, keep efficiency up, and are required to maintain most manufacturer warranties.

HeatingHow long should a furnace last?+

15–20 years for a quality unit that's been maintained. Past 15, if you're facing a big repair (heat exchanger, control board), it's worth pricing a replacement against fixing.

HeatingWhat does AFUE mean and what should I look for?+

AFUE is the percent of fuel turned into heat. Code minimum is 80%. We recommend 95%+ for our climate — the upgrade typically pays back in 6–10 winters.

CoolingWhen should I schedule AC maintenance?+

Spring, before the first 90-degree day. We clean coils, check refrigerant, test the capacitor, and catch the small stuff before it leaves you sweating in July.

CoolingIs a ductless mini-split right for my add-on or shop?+

Often yes. Mini-splits are perfect for additions, finished basements, and shops where running ductwork is impractical. They heat and cool, and modern units run efficiently down to -15°F.

BillingDo you give free estimates?+

Free in-home estimates on installations and replacements. Diagnostic service calls have a flat trip-and-diagnose fee that's waived if you approve the repair.

BillingDo you offer financing?+

Yes, on qualifying installations through our financing partners — including 0% promotional options. We'll go over the terms before any paperwork.

BillingWhat forms of payment do you accept?+

Cash, check, all major credit cards, and approved financing. Payment is due on completion unless other arrangements are made up front.
