Types of furnaces we install

The two most common home heating systems are forced air and radiant (boiler). Forced air uses ductwork to distribute heated air; radiant systems use a boiler to send hot water through pipes to radiators, baseboards, or under-floor tubing. In our climate, gas forced-air furnaces are usually the most cost-effective long term — higher upfront cost is offset by lower monthly operating cost.

How we size and select your furnace

  • BTU capacity matched to your home
  • AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating
  • Load calculation — square footage, location, foundation, window count
  • Manufacturer warranty

Upgrade features to consider

  • Whole-home air filtration
  • Electronic vs. standing-pilot ignition
  • Variable heat output
  • Variable-speed blower
  • Dual heat exchanger
  • Zoned heating

Questions about heating

How often should I service my furnace?+

Once a year, ideally in early fall before the cold hits. Annual tune-ups catch failing parts, keep efficiency up, and are required to maintain most manufacturer warranties.

How long should a furnace last?+

15–20 years for a quality unit that's been maintained. Past 15, if you're facing a big repair (heat exchanger, control board), it's worth pricing a replacement against fixing.

What does AFUE mean and what should I look for?+

AFUE is the percent of fuel turned into heat. Code minimum is 80%. We recommend 95%+ for our climate — the upgrade typically pays back in 6–10 winters.
